The client company, which occupies a pivotal position in the global commodities market, required a state-of-the-art new data centre to accommodate growing demand.
Excel was commissioned to design and build a high-level containment solution, and to install a total of 73 cabinets within the data centre, along with 40 x 24-way, 30 x 12-way and 14 x 6-way copper Cat6a panel-to-panel links, as well as a total of 350 x 24-way fibre OM3 panel-to-panel links.
Completion was required within a four-week programme.
As a leading CommScope approved installer, we were able to develop a comprehensive design and installation solution based around the very latest Cat6a technology along with OM3 Pre-terminated fibre 10Gbs solution.
We also had a design challenge of constructing two high-level bespoke panel enclosures to house the panel connectivity above the three par cabinets and EMC cabinets to match the full aesthetics of the high level containment solution.
As well as the cabling design itself, pivotal to the success of the installation was a ‘smart’ project management approach, allowing us to accommodate and respond to changes across the wider building project.
To ensure we met the demands of this fast-paced installation, we set up our own pre-termination facility within an on-site build room, incorporating benches with Seikoh Giken machine polishing, end-face geometry testing for the fibre, and a controlled pulling schedule with accurate AutoCAD generated measurements for both fibre and copper throughout the pre-termination process.
This was then installed to a programme of priorities, ensuring the pre-term cabling was installed in the correct phases from the main patching cabinets to the server destination cabinets.
This was carefully managed by our on-site team working the first two weeks on a 24/7 shift pattern.
The client is now benefiting from the full range of an upgraded 10Gbs and future proof 40Gbs structured cabling system.
This showcase datacentre was also nominated as the benchmark data hall within the building for further potential clients within the co-location datacentre facility.
